Luke breaks his own record at British Championships

Luke Booth made a great start to Metro’s representation at this Summer’s National Championships by breaking his own record in the 1500m freestyle at the British Championships being held at Ponds Forge.  On July 22nd, he swam a time of 16:23.47 beating his previous time by over 6 seconds.  Luke also swam the 400m freestyle the following day and will compete again at the English Nationals during August.

Good luck to Luke and all Metro swimmers.

Luke Booth breaks a 20 year old record!

Last weekend saw our swimmers continue to succeed at our well-attended Springtime Meet at Ponds Forge.

There were some exceptional performances topped off by Luke Booth breaking Joe Roebuck’s record from August 2002 in the Open Boys 400m Freestyle.

Luke achieved a time of 4:10.90 breaking the previous record of 4:11.36.

Well done to Luke for breaking yet another Club Record!

Girls 50m and 100m Freestyle Records Broken Again!

Eve Doherty has been in record breaking form again in recent weeks.

At the British Championships last month she broke her own U15 and Open records for the 50m freestyle with a time of 27.40s.  She then went on to break her own 100m record at the NERs with a time of 59.51s.

Following on from all the club records broken at the Yorkshire Championships, we have seen continued record breaking success from Luke Booth, Eve Doherty and Mollie Fisher.

Luke set the bar high on 25th March in Sheffield by beating George Russell’s 2015 record in the Open Boys 1500m freestyle with a time of 16:29.69.  Just a week later, also in Sheffield, he then went on to knock over 9s from his own Open Boys 800m freestyle record with a time of 8:37.27.

On 13th March in Coventry, Eve broke Georgina Whysall’s 1997 record in the U15 Girls 100m freestyle with a time of 59.54s.  She then went on to break her own record in the U15 Girls 50m freestyle with a time of 27.61s in Sheffield on 3rd April and at the same time breaking the open record also set by Georgina Whysall in 1998.

On 11th March in Stockport, Mollie broke her own record on the Open Girls 1500m freestyle with a time of 17:54.05 only to better it just 2 weeks later in Sheffield with a time of 17:52.09.

Massive congratulations to all three swimmers!

Well done to Eve Doherty in the 50m freestyle, with a time of 27.80s, beating Georgina Whysall’s time in the U15 girls of 27.85s from 1997. She then went on to achieve a slightly faster time in the final, of 27.78s to break her own record the same day!
Also well done to Luke Booth, in the 800m freestyle with a time of 8:46:95, beating the open record of 8:48:22 set by George Russell in 2016.
